Seasoned trial lawyers across Los Angeles, Chicago, and Washington, D.C. bring experience in health care and complex commercial disputes to the firm’s national litigation practice

Epstein Becker Green today announced the addition of six litigators, including five partner-level hires, to the firm’s Litigation and Business Disputes practice. Charles Weir, Megan Thibert-Ind, Andrew Beshai, Rebecca Finkel, and Colin McGrath join as Members of the Firm, with Carolyn Sharzer joining as an Associate. The team spans Los Angeles, Chicago, and Washington, D.C., and comes to the firm from Manatt, Phelps & Phillips with decades of experience representing clients in high-stakes business disputes, health care litigation, and regulatory matters.

“This group brings deep health care litigation experience and a strong record in commercial disputes, along with sound strategic judgment. Their record defending health care organizations and other businesses further strengthens our ability to provide comprehensive counsel to clients facing complex legal challenges,” said James Flynn, Managing Director of Epstein Becker Green.

“Our clients depend on counsel that reflects the regional and industry-specific regulatory environment in which they operate. This team has formidable experience representing health care and commercial clients in complex business disputes, including substantial trial experience, as well as in government investigations and prosecutions, civil rights litigation, and internal investigations. Their addition highlights our ongoing commitment to providing robust and effective legal defense for clients across industries in their highest stakes matters," said Erik Weibust, Co-Chair of Epstein Becker Green's National Litigation Steering Committee.

Each Member of the Firm brings more than a decade of experience in complex litigation and investigations work and collectively the attorneys have tried dozens of cases to verdict in courts and tribunals around the country. Representative highlights include:

Charles Weir:

  • Weir has more than two decades of experience handling complex business disputes, enforcement actions, and internal investigations for clients, with deep experience in health care, and other public and private companies.
  • Weir’s practice includes qui tam litigation under the federal and California False Claims Acts, class actions, commercial contractual matters, and internal investigations for health care providers.
  • Weir has experience handling landmark cases relating to unfair competition, trademark, copyright, and trade secret matters spanning health care, financial services, consumer products, and entertainment.

Megan Thibert-Ind:

  • For more than 20 years, Thibert-Ind has represented hospital systems, academic medical centers, ambulatory care centers, pharmacy providers, and life sciences organizations in complex litigation and commercial disputes in state and federal courts and before arbitration tribunals nationwide.
  • Thibert-Ind offers specific bench strength in breach of contract claims, 340B Drug Pricing Program reimbursement disputes, risk assessment and counseling, post-acquisition disputes, and federal enforcement actions.
  • Thibert-Ind’s practice also extends to clients outside the healthcare industry having represented financial institutions, energy companies, and online merchants in multi-million dollar high-stakes cases throughout the country.

Andrew Beshai:

  • Beshai brings a deep understanding of how prosecutors build cases from his experience as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Central District of California, where he led investigations and tried criminal cases involving tax fraud, bank fraud, securities fraud, wire fraud, loan fraud, and money laundering, and as trial attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) in its Civil Rights Division.
  • He regularly defends companies and individuals facing federal investigations, white collar prosecutions, civil rights litigation, and complex commercial disputes.

Rebecca Finkel:

  • Finkel’s practice focuses on commercial litigation, civil and criminal enforcement actions, and internal investigations, with a focus on the health care sector. A two-time federal law clerk, she also has unique insights into how counsel can most effectively advocate for their clients before the judiciary.
  • Finkel has represented clients in criminal and civil investigations by the U.S. Department of Justice, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, and self-regulatory organizations, including the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority and the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board.

Colin McGrath:

  • McGrath’s practice focuses on all aspects of civil and commercial litigation, and particularly health care litigation in federal and state courts.
  • Within health care, McGrath has extensive experience across the industry’s most challenging litigation, including False Claims Act suits under both federal and California law, medical staff and peer review matters, actions involving the Unruh Civil Rights Act, unfair competition, antitrust, ERISA, and California’s anti-SLAPP statute.

Carolyn Sharzer:

  • Sharzer litigates a wide array of controversies that clients encounter in the health care regulatory and commercial landscape. Having been involved in several trials, she approaches disputes with an understanding of both the risks and rewards of litigation.
  • She has experience in Medicare and Medicaid advocacy and policy, having served as a senior client services associate at a health care nonprofit and as a waiver program coordinator within the Massachusetts Executive Office of Health and Human Services.

“Clients look for counsel who understand their landscape of regulatory and business pressures as well as the legal issues themselves,” said Thibert-Ind. “Epstein Becker Green’s platform brings those perspectives together allowing us to hit the ground running while we help our clients navigate their most complex challenges with the support of our new colleagues.”

“Our team understands that effective litigation strategy must be tightly aligned with clients’ broader business objectives and requires a trusted relationship between clients and counsel,” said Weir. “I’m excited to build on that approach at Epstein Becker Green and continue expanding the firm’s capabilities in high-stakes disputes across the country.”

The additions of Thibert-Ind, Finkel, McGrath, Beshai, Sharzer, and Weir—who will also assume a new role as Co-Chair of the Firm’s National Litigation Steering Committee alongside Weibust—reflect Epstein Becker Green’s continued investment in trial attorneys that enhance the firm’s experience and visibility in matters involving litigation and business disputes, particularly in health care and highly regulated industries.
