Overview

“The best defense starts with understanding how prosecutors think, what they look for, and how they build a case. I learned that from the inside.” —Andrew Beshai

When companies and individuals face federal investigations, white collar prosecutions, civil rights litigation, or complex commercial disputes, they turn to attorney Andrew Beshai.

A former federal prosecutor and trial attorney, Andrew has experience at every stage of litigation, from the initial investigation through motion practice and ultimately to trial and appeal.

Andrew’s government career shapes how he approaches every matter he handles. As an Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) for the Central District of California, he led investigations and tried criminal cases involving tax fraud, bank fraud, securities fraud, wire fraud, loan fraud, and money laundering—including prosecuting a doctor who operated corrupt medical clinics, a bank employee who stole millions from elderly customers, and cyber actors who defrauded international companies through a business email compromise scheme. Before that, he served as a trial attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) Civil Rights Division, investigating and litigating discrimination cases against state and local entities across multiple states.

Before joining the DOJ, Andrew clerked for the Honorable Mary H. Murguia, the chief judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, working on matters including a novel securities law question that eventually reached the U.S. Supreme Court. He also clerked for the Honorable R. Gary Klausner in the Central District of California, handling numerous significant cases, including a landmark copyright trial. Andrew graduated as valedictorian from Loyola Law School and continues to serve there as an adjunct professor, teaching White Collar Defense & Investigations as well as Legal Drafting.

What Andrew Delivers for Clients

  • White Collar Defense and Government Investigations: When a federal investigation begins, the decisions made in the early stages can determine how the matter ends. Andrew’s years as an AUSA give clients an advocate who knows what prosecutors look for, how they evaluate evidence, and where the greatest opportunities to shape the outcome lie.
  • Complex Commercial Litigation: Complex commercial disputes demand a litigator who is as effective in managing discovery and motion practice as he is in the courtroom. Andrew has built that record across a wide range of matter types at the federal and state levels.
  • Civil Rights Litigation: Andrew has litigated civil rights matters from both sides—as a DOJ trial attorney and now as defense counsel. That dual perspective provides clients with a clear-eyed assessment of how these cases are built and what it takes to defend against them effectively.
  • Appellate Practice: Having clerked for two federal judges, Andrew understands how appellate judges approach and decide cases. Clients whose matters reach the appellate level benefit from an advocate who knows how to frame issues in a way that resonates with the judges deciding them.
