New York, NY (March 8, 2022)Epstein Becker Green (EBG) is thrilled to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its Women’s Initiative (WI), first launched in 2002 by attorneys Maxine Neuhauser, Frances Green, and Joan Disler (retired). One of the first of its kind, the WI was founded to enhance the careers of professional women—at EBG, in the legal industry as a whole, and in the various business sectors the Firm has long served.

“For women, finding the time to effectively network and develop critically needed hard and soft skills can be particularly challenging for a host of reasons,” said Maxine Neuhauser, Member of the Firm. “Joan, Fran, and I believed that programming tailored to development and growth would be good for our lawyers and our clients, and great for the business of both sides.”

Co-founding member Frances Green added, “We are fortunate to have a number of terrific female attorneys, each of whom has achieved, and continues to achieve, great success—for example, the creation of an external, nonprofit organization connecting senior executive women across the health care industry by Lynn Shapiro Snyder. In concert with our women attorneys, the WI leverages the power of women networking for skill-building and advancement.”

“The Firm has proudly championed the WI since its founding,” said Jim Flynn, Managing Director of EBG. “Our commitment to our women attorneys has been a mainstay of the success of the WI, and the Firm more generally. Our women attorneys’ commitment to the WI, in turn, has been a key to that continuing success. Two decades after its inception, the WI remains an integral and dynamic component of our ongoing efforts to strengthen diversity, equity, and inclusion and to increase the number of women attorneys in the Firm and among our equity partnership and leadership ranks. Today, we are proud that nearly half of EBG attorneys are women.”

“Women make up 33 percent of EBG’s Board of Directors and 42 percent of our office managing and administrative partners,” noted Susan Gross Sholinsky, Member of the Firm, Board Member, and Chair of the WI. “The mission of this group has expanded over the years, both internally in support of the professional development of our women lawyers, and beyond our own walls. I am privileged to lead the WI, backed by a truly passionate Executive Committee, into its third decade.”

EBG and the WI are strong, vocal supporters of the Mansfield Rule, the National Association of Women Lawyers, 50/50 Women on Boards: Global Conversation on Board Diversity, and many more valuable organizations.
