Nashville, TN (January 10, 2023)Epstein Becker Green (EBG) is pleased to announce that two additional lawyers, Ryan Cochran and Jeb Gerth, have joined as Members of the Firm in Nashville, Tennessee. Ryan, who concentrates his practice in health care restructuring, and Jeb, who focuses on employee benefits and other aspects of employment law, join during a time of meaningful growth for the firm in the Southeast, following its recent move to a new space to accommodate other new hires, including John C. Tishler in November and Chris Dunn, M. Carter DeLorme, Keith Randall, Jeremy Oliver, Briant Shumard, and Kevin Elkins earlier last year. Ryan and Jeb join EBG from Waller Lansden Dortch & Davis (Waller).

Ryan joins the firm’s Health Care & Life Sciences practice and brings experience maximizing recoveries and finding the most effective solutions for receivers, indenture trustees, financial services clients, and other health care industry players. Since 2014, he has represented the receiver or indenture trustee in 23 receiverships over 36 senior living facilities, including selling 23 senior living facilities using a court-approved stalking horse auction process in the marketing and sale of the facilities.

As former Finance & Restructuring (F&R) Practice Group Leader at Waller, Ryan has experience working on insolvency and receivership proceedings involving municipalities, health care facilities, utilities, real estate ventures, and other businesses. As a transaction-focused attorney and litigator, he helps clients navigate the complexities caused by financially distressed parties and projects, both in structuring corporate and credit transactions and in connection with bankruptcy proceedings.

Jeb joins EBG’s Employment, Labor & Workforce Management practice, where he will continue defending clients on issues under both federal and state law, including Title VII, the ADA, the ADEA, and FMLA employment laws. He also assists employers in enforcing and defending non-competition and non-solicitation agreements both in court and through the negotiated resolution of claims.

In addition to his employment practice, Jeb regularly advises on issues arising under ERISA, and has litigated a wide range of ERISA and other disputes from discrimination in race, age, religion, and gender, to harassment and retaliation claims.

“We are excited for the unique skill set and relationships Ryan and Jeb will bring to EBG and the roles they play in the continued expansion of our presence in the Southeast and Nashville,” said Mark E. Lutes, Chair of EBG’s Board of Directors.

“Their experience in the financial services and health care industries, disputes and litigation, offers both new services and opportunities for counsel to our existing clients and opens our doors to new opportunities to further build out our presence and practice in the region,” added John Tishler, himself a health care finance attorney recently added to the firm’s Nashville office.

Both attorneys offer growth-focused practices and hold deep connections in the Southeast. This complements their new colleagues in Nashville who are members and leaders of the Tennessee Bar Association, Tennessee Justice Center, and the Nashville Healthcare Council, among others. Jeb is a Member of the Executive Council of the Tennessee Bar Labor and Employment Law Section and formerly served as its Chair. Ryan is a Member of the Turnaround Management Association and a past Board Member of the Mid-South Commercial Law Institute. He is also a past Member of the Land Trust for Tennessee.

“EBG prioritizes both health care and labor and employment equally through exceptional resources and talent,” said Jeb. “As Ryan and I enter the next phase of our careers, we are excited to join a firm where we know each of our practices will receive the same standard of dedication and care under Epstein Becker Green’s five-decade-long super boutique strategy.”

“The firm’s national platform allows us access to a strong network of skilled attorneys throughout the country while also providing us the ability to cultivate our existing client relationships and connections in Nashville,” said Ryan. “We are excited to reunite with former colleagues who have shared that their decision to join EBG has been fantastic.”
