Addition part of firm's continued commitment to expand its health care presence in District of Columbia and nationally

New York, NY (June 19, 2013) — The national law firm of Epstein Becker Green (EBG) today announced that John Eriksen has rejoined the firm's Health Care and Life Sciences practice as a Member of the Firm in the Washington, D.C., office. Mr. Eriksen previously worked in this practice in the firm's D.C. office from 2001 to 2010.

From 2010 to 2013, Mr. Eriksen served as Assistant General Counsel at Sutter Health in Sacramento, Calif., which is one of the nation's leading not-for-profit health care networks of hospitals, physician organizations, home health and hospice agencies, other health care services, and in 2013, the addition of a Knox Keene licensed HMO.

At EBG, Mr. Eriksen's practice focuses on advising insurers, managed care organizations, hospitals, health systems, Medicare Advantage and Prescription Drug Plans, accreditation organizations, and other health care entities on a broad range of issues. These include: strategic development, federal and state regulatory compliance, governance, fraud and abuse matters, provider and vendor contracting, transactional due diligence, and acquisitions and joint ventures.

"Many of our alumni such as John have held prestigious leadership positions outside of the firm throughout the health care industry. These alumni often return to the firm after helping shape developments within the industry. We believe that our mid-sized culture and strong industry focus are what draws back talent," said Doug Hastings, Chair of the firm's Board of Directors and a Member of the Health Care and Life Sciences practice, in the Washington, D.C., office.

"We are pleased to welcome John back to the firm. His background in health care regulatory and transactional matters will be a valuable addition to our growing national health care practice and to the wide range of clients we serve in the current health reform environment," said George Breen, Chair of the firm's National Health Care and Life Sciences Practice Steering Committee, in the Washington, D.C., office.

Mr. Eriksen said, "EBG is where I began my legal career, and it always provided me with interesting work, a support system, and, overall, a solid foundation that enabled me to develop as an attorney, to build my practice, and to serve our clients well. I look forward to rejoining the firm and to continue that commitment to our clients. It will also be great to reconnect with an outstanding group of colleagues and friends at EBG."

Other firm alumni who serve or have served in leadership positions in the health care industry, include: Cara Bachenheimer, Senior Vice President, Government Relations, Invacare Corporation; Dale Bonner, former California Secretary of Business, Transportation, and Housing; Beth Essig, Senior Vice President and General Counsel, Continuum; Tom Farah, Senior Vice President and General Counsel, SureScripts, LLC; Randy Jordan, Chief Executive Officer, Hope Worldwide; Ann Kaplan, Vice President and Deputy General Counsel, PhRMA; Tom Kelly, Assistant General Counsel, Pfizer Inc.; Ed Neugebauer, Chief of Litigation, Aetna U.S. Healthcare, Inc.; Clayton Nix, Board Member, Department of Health and Human Services' Provider Reimbursement Review Board; Leslie Norwalk, former Acting Administrator during the Bush Administration for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services; Chris Panczner, Senior Vice President and General Counsel, Montefiore Medical Center; Kerry Parker, Senior Vice President and Chief Risk Officer, Visiting Nurse Service of New York; and Linda Tiano, Senior Vice President and General Counsel, Health Net.
