Richard Hughes, Member of the Firm, participates on a panel, “Who Decides? Public Health Authority in a Changing Federal Landscape,” at the 2026 Grantmakers In Health (GIH) Health Policy Exchange, which runs from November 9 to 11.
As the federal government continues to pursue changes to the nation’s public health system, the authority of states and localities to protect the health of their communities is being actively tested. This session will explore how federalism shapes decisions on issues such as vaccines and other public health measures, and what happens when federal and state priorities diverge. The implications for public health practice and the ability of communities to respond effectively to emerging health threats will be considered.
