Jeffrey Ruzal and Jenny Yu, Members of the Firm, co-present "Coast-to-Coast Compliance: Navigating the Federal–State Divide" at ACC New York City.
Employers operating across jurisdictions face increased wage-and-hour risk amid conflicting legal standards. This program is designed for in-house counsel and HR leaders navigating the growing divide between federal, California, and New York wage and hour laws.
Jeff, whose practice is centered on counseling and defending employers in FLSA collective actions and New York State wage and hour litigation, and Jenny, whose practice is focused on California wage and hour defense, class actions, and PAGA representative actions, offer a bicoastal perspective on the compliance challenges facing multi-state employers.
Worker classification is a hot topic across jurisdictions. The program will review the current state of the law related to:
- Independent contractor versus employee classification
- Exempt versus nonexempt classification
- Differentiation between laws applicable to each classification
Targeted checklists will accompany the presentation, geared toward compliant and best internal practices. Beyond worker classification, the program will conclude with a brief review of wage and hour areas subject to recent changes in the law in each jurisdiction to assist with broader compliance efforts.
