Overview
Sara Devaraj* supports hospitals, physician groups, private equity firms, and other health care clients in a broad range of health law matters.
Results-focused and detail-oriented, Sara assists clients with mergers and acquisitions (including health regulatory due diligence), Certificate of Need approvals, and internal investigations. She also works with clients on corporate law matters and helps draft, review, and revise HIPAA Privacy and Security policies and website privacy policies to ensure regulatory compliance and best practices in data protection.
Sara started her legal career at Epstein Becker Green as a summer associate in the firm’s Washington, DC, office. During law school, she gained valuable experience as a legal extern for a pediatric hospital in Maryland, where she overhauled the hospital’s records retention policy and organized annual conflict-of-interest disclosures. She also provided health care consulting services on a pro bono basis, which included tracking drug pricing negotiations, monitoring Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act lawsuits related to abortion, and analyzing First Amendment violation claims during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Before attending law school, Sara worked in the corporate office of an acute-care hospital serving patients from across the Washington, DC, region, where she developed a foundational understanding of the operational and regulatory challenges facing health care organizations.
