As a growing number of provider organizations create population health management strategies, some industry experts say history clearly shows that incentives must be aligned for a groundswell movement to occur. “For 40 or 50 years healthcare has been designing different versions of incentive systems to promote non–volume based thinking and activity,” says Mark Lutes, the chairman of Epstein Becker Green and a member of the law firm’s Health Care and Life Sciences practice in Washington.
