New York, NY (October 2, 2024)Epstein Becker Green (EBG) is proud to announce that it has completed the Mansfield Rule 2023–2024, administered by Diversity Lab, and achieved Mansfield Certification Plus status as part of the firm’s enduring commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

Named after Arabella Mansfield, the first woman admitted to the legal profession in the United States, the Mansfield Rule aims to boost the representation of historically underrepresented lawyers in law firm leadership by helping to formalize procedures and implement tracking systems to ensure underrepresented lawyers are considered for positions, including hiring, staffing, promotion, and significant governance roles. Benchmarking progress and incorporating a reflective element into the decision-making process broaden the pool of candidates considered for these opportunities and will lead to sustainable change over time.

Mansfield Certification Plus measures the structural changes and steps EBG has taken to ensure paths to leadership—including lateral hiring, client pitch teams, promotions, appointments, and more—are open and transparent to all. Achieving “Certification Plus” status indicates that EBG not only has taken steps to increase inclusivity in leadership but also has made measured progress in doing so.

"Achieving this significant milestone underscores our firm’s commitment to nurturing talented individuals with diverse perspectives. We continue our commitment to participating in the Mansfield Rule and have signed the pledge for the Mansfield Rule 2024–2025," remarked Carrie Valiant, Chair of the firm’s Diversity and Professional Development Committee. "We are excited about the opportunities to make a lasting impact on our firm and the legal industry as a whole."
