Today’s consumers are savvier than ever. Online access to information opened a new frontier of knowledge and transparency, but has that held true in health care? For almost 10 years, insurers have been required to publish machine-readable files for qualified health plans offered through the health insurance exchanges, and now that requirement has been extended and applies to most health plans in the individual and group health markets, including employer-sponsored plans.
On July 1, 2022, insurance companies and employer-sponsored plans will be required to publish the rates they negotiate with providers in a machine-readable format. Publishing the machine-readable files will be a major first step in a series of transparency requirements that will roll out over the next three years.
Recorded on June 7, 2022, this audiocast features Epstein Becker Green attorneys discussing key questions with our guest, health economist Steve Parente, to uncover what insurance companies, employer-sponsored plan administrators, and employers need to know about the July 1, 2022, deadline for publishing machine-readable files.
