Sharon Peters and Jeremy Morris, Members of the Firm, co-present "I Can See Clearly Now - Fair Hearings Demystified" at the NAMSS 49th Educational Conference & Exhibition, which runs from September 28 to October 1.

The fair hearing process is often viewed as a scary, cumbersome, avoid-at-all cost experience. Yet it is a vital part of the peer review system to ensure both quality assurance and due process for those involved. This presentation will break down the fair hearing process into easy-to-understand stages. The presenters will engage the audience with song titles and music clips, then address in depth the compliance, risk management, quality improvement, and legal issues raised.

Each stage will be presented using an entertaining song title. For example, we will begin with “Into the Mystic,” which will address some common misconceptions or assumptions about the fair hearing process. “Should I Stay or Should I Go Now” will address issues related to resignation at any point during the process.

Attendees will learn how to:

  • utilize effective strategies throughout the peer review process to help ensure a successful fair hearing;
  • develop a proper preparation check list for an upcoming fair hearing; and
  • identify appropriate processes to utilize in the aftermath of a fair hearing to complete the process.
