WASHINGTON, DC – January 25, 2018 With February marking American Heart Month, Women’s Heart Alliance (WHA) is pleased to announce that Epstein Becker Green (EBG), a national boutique law firm with a primary focus on the health care industry and workforce management, has become one of WHA’s COMPANIES WITH HEART to raise awareness and encourage action for women’s heart health and to support WHA’s pilot activities in the Nashville, Tenn., market.

“Joining the Women’s Heart Alliance as a COMPANY WITH HEART made perfect sense for Epstein Becker Green, given the law firm’s unique decades-long focus and leadership in advising all sectors of the health care industry and in advising all industries with its thought leadership in workforce management issues,” said Lynn Shapiro Snyder, Board Member and Senior Member of EBG in the Health Care and Life Sciences and Litigation practices in the firm’s Washington, D.C., office.

“Women’s heart health issues include not only the need for more awareness about the disease, but also about the challenges facing the patients and caregivers, such as reimbursement for new technologies and new population health initiatives,” Ms. Shapiro Snyder said.  “Epstein Becker Green has deep experience with these issues and shares WHA’s commitment to influencing positive change. Also, as Founder and President of the Women Business Leaders of the Health Care Industry Foundation, a national network of over 3,500 senior women leading health care companies, I was well aware that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women in the U.S. Together, WHA, EBG, and the other COMPANIES WITH HEART hope to make meaningful advancements to prevent, treat and cure cardiovascular disease particularly in women, who have different risk factors than men.”

In addition to WHA’s national efforts, in 2017 WHA launched Cities and Communities with Heart Initiative Nashville to improve heart health and to reduce cardiovascular disease at a local level. Partners include the Office of Mayor Megan Barry, Metro Public Health Department Nashville, Meharry-Vanderbilt Alliance, Meharry Medical College, NashvilleHealth, Saint Thomas Ascension Health and others.

“Given that EBG recently opened an office in Nashville – the health care industry capital – we are excited to work on WHA’s efforts on the ground here to help build awareness among women, especially those most at risk, and with the caregivers in our local health care systems about the No. 1 killer of women in our city,” said Ellen C. Bonner, Member of the Firm in EBG’s Nashville office, who is a national leader in health care government contracts and TRICARE issues.

“We hope that EBG’s knowledge of and existing relationships in the Nashville health care industry market, combined with EBG’s experience and connections to legislative and regulatory developments coming generally from Washington, D.C., and more specifically from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services in Baltimore, Md., will be an asset to WHA and its mission both in Nashville and nationally,” she said.

“We are thrilled to welcome Epstein Becker Green as one of our newest members of COMPANIES WITH HEART,” said British A. Robinson, Chief Executive Office of WHA.  “The firm’s exceptional knowledge of and connections in the health care industry will be an asset to our education, advocacy, and programmatic efforts we make in 2018 and beyond.
