Julie Schlegel is an experienced attorney who works with employers across industries to help address their most pressing employment law concerns, including claims of discrimination and harassment, workplace accommodation requests, employee discipline, wrongful termination, and wage and hour issues.

Julie has counseled employers on all aspects of their employment relationships, from hiring through termination, and defended them in federal and state litigation and administrative proceedings.

Julie’s experience includes the following:

  • Defending employers in state and federal individual and class actions, including wage and hour, discrimination, harassment, and other employment-related litigation and administrative proceedings.
  • Assisting employers in drafting, updating, implementing, and administering employment handbooks, policies, and procedures.
  • Counseling clients regarding employment matters, including ADA and other equal employment issues, hiring and termination decisions, employee discipline, reductions in force, and the implementation of personnel policies.
  • Advising clients regarding compliance with recently enacted legislation governing the use of criminal background checks, sexual harassment policies and training requirements, paid sick leave, and equal pay issues.
  • Monitoring emerging COVID-19 developments, and providing practical guidance to assist employers with navigating return-to-work issues, remote work and other employee accommodation requests, workplace safety protocols, and testing and vaccine concerns.

Prior to joining Epstein Becker Green, Julie worked as a labor and employment associate at a multi-national firm in Washington, D.C., and also served as a Senate Assistant Counsel for Employment at the Office of Senate Chief Counsel for Employment, in the U.S. Senate.  This combination of private and public sector employment law experience enables Julie to readily address a variety of legal issues that may arise in the employer/employee relationship.
