Thought Leaders in Health Law.®
What Makes Us Stand Out
Health care is in our genes. The breadth of experience delivered by our Health Care and Life Sciences practice—to all players throughout every sector of the health care delivery system—sets us apart. We know the industry inside and out. You might say, it’s in our genes.
We’re the “go to” practice. We have a sophisticated go-to practice for academic and other hospital systems and large physician group practices, including everything from major transactions and government investigations to litigation matters and day-to-day advice; a high-level managed care capability on both the provider and payor sides; and extensive experience working with venture capital and private equity funds in evaluating health-related targets. And we do sophisticated regulatory work for life sciences companies.
We stay on the cutting edge of health reform. We are a leader in providing strategic and other advice relating to health reform, including formation of accountable care organizations and joint ventures between providers and payors and issues pertaining to exchanges, new provider/payer payment arrangements, population health management programs, and the establishment of programs to participate in government demonstration programs. We also have an office adjacent to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services in Baltimore, MD, spotlighting our representation of clients regarding the complex Medicare, Medicaid, and related public health programs affected by the Affordable Care Act.
We think outside the box. Because our health lawyers are exceptionally creative, insightful, and fervent advocates, we are able to work with clients, consultants, regulators, and others to find effective solutions outside the normal range of options that routinely would be considered.
We bring value to our clients. Our focused dedication to the health care industry is critical to our ability to bring value to our clients. Unlike a traditional law firm model where projects for health-related clients are staffed by importing attorneys from general practice areas, EBG houses most relevant disciplines (e.g., corporate, fraud and abuse, reimbursement, managed care, antitrust, tax, ERISA, and litigation) within our Health Care and Life Sciences practice.
We have extensive labor and employment resources. EBG has one of the largest health care and life sciences practices, and one of the largest practices dedicated to human resources legal issues, in the United States. This makes EBG ideally suited to handle all the labor and employment, employee benefits, and immigration issues that arise in the day-to-day running of health care institutions and to structure corporate transactions to best address those issues.
Our lawyers have real-world experience. Our practice includes former high-level government officials and lawyers with diverse and extensive experience in the health care and life sciences industry on both the business and professional sides. These real-world experiences make our lawyers more effective advisors.
Our practice and lawyers are nationally recognized. Our Health Care and Life Sciences has been recognized by American Lawyer magazine as one of the most prestigious practices in the United States and is consistently among the largest health care practices in the country according to Modern Healthcare. We’re also ranked nationally in Tier 1 for Health Care Law by U.S. News - Best Lawyers “Best Law Firms” (2017) and highly ranked in Healthcare – Nationwide (and in the District of Columbia, New Jersey, and New York) by Chambers USA (2017). Vault, a career information website, based on feedback from law firm associates on diversity issues, ranked us at #2 "Best Law Firms for Healthcare" (2018) out of more than 200 firms surveyed. Additionally, our Health Care and Life Sciences practice was named a “Health Care Practice Group of the Year” for 2014 by Law360, and numerous EBG lawyers have been consistently ranked at the top of their field in health care by such publications as Chambers USA, The Best Lawyers in America, The Legal 500 United States, and Super Lawyers.
We're dedicated to improving the health care system. Members of our Health Care and Life Sciences practice have established nonprofit organizations devoted to improving the U.S. health care system. For example, Lynn Shapiro Snyder founded the Women Business Leaders in Health Care, a national nonprofit organization that brings together a peer group of senior executive women from all parts of the health care industry. And Carrie Valiant founded the Health Care Industry Access Initiative, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting collaborative action across the health care industry to improve access to health care coverage and services in the United States.
We’re committed to inspiring the health care leaders of tomorrow. The firm’s annual Health Law Writing Competition is designed to encourage law school students to prepare scholarly papers on current topics of interest relating to health law.
Our deep pool of talented lawyers positions us to offer our health care and life sciences clients innovative, interdisciplinary strategies designed to produce legally and fiscally sound results.
