Epstein Becker Green Attorney George Breen Named Pro Bono Champion by American Health Lawyers Association

Recognition Symbolizes Firm's Commitment to
Pro Bono Work for the Health Care Community

George B. Breen

NEW YORK (June 26, 2013)George Breen has been named a Pro Bono Champion by the American Health Lawyers Association (AHLA). The AHLA recognizes its member lawyers who have helped to increase the availability and quality of health care or otherwise provide needed access to the legal system for those in the health care community.

The AHLA noted that the champions selected "represent excellence in fulfillment of the volunteer tradition of the legal profession." Breen is Chair of the Health Care and Life Sciences Practice Steering Committee, leads Epstein Becker Green's Pro Bono Committee in the firm's Washington, DC office, and is a Member of the firm in the Health Care and Life Sciences and Litigation practices.

Among other activities, Breen was recognized for his service to The District of Columbia Bar Pro Bono Program Advocacy & Justice Clinic, a partnership with legal service providers and many of the District's largest law firms and government agencies, to provide representation to clients on a range of civil legal problems. In addition to supervising the firm's participation in the clinic and training other attorneys to handle cases, Mr. Breen brings his many years of experience as a health care litigator to serve pro bono clients as they endeavor to demonstrate that physical or mental disabilities impair them and justify an award of benefits. He was also commended for his leadership of the Pro Bono Committee in EBG's Washington, DC office, which has seen a substantial increase in pro bono hours expended by firm attorneys during his tenure.

The firm was founded to serve the health care industry and has been at the forefront of the health care legal developments since 1973. The focus of the firm allows attorneys to become involved in a variety of pro bono projects in the health care industry.

Epstein Becker Green continues to recognize its professional responsibility to the communities it serves and understands the unique opportunity for personal and professional growth that pro bono work affords. Attorneys and staff in all offices are encouraged to work on pro bono projects and to volunteer their time on community-based projects. A sampling of the firm's 2012 health care pro bono clients include ABZYME Research Foundation, Children's Health Fund, Friends of Karen, National Association of Health Services Executives, National Health Law Program (NHeLP), Partnership for Public Service Center, The Robert J. Waters Center for Telehealth and e-Health Law (CTeL), and Whitman Walker Health.
