ACA – Medicaid and the Exchanges

Removal of controversial sections of the Affordable Care Act (“ACA”), may be more likely than a wholesale repeal of the ACA. Medicaid expansion, a major element of the ACA, could face serious challenges under the new administration. There are an estimated 12 million individuals insured by Medicaid. With a repeal of the ACA, one proposal suggests that states be provided with a block grant for Medicaid, giving each state authority to run Medicaid programs as they wish.

Currently, President Donald J. Trump's team is working with congressional leaders to craft a plan to repeal and replace the ACA. President Trump’s first action has been to issue an executive order to “minimize the economic burden” of the ACA.
