Overview

Attorney Scott Connolly draws on insights gained as both in-house and outside counsel to help employers effectively navigate the full spectrum of legal challenges that arise throughout the employment relationship.

His approach is focused on providing practical advice to help clients achieve their business objectives quickly and efficiently.

Scott partners with clients to develop best practices for the workplace. He offers timely guidance on employee discipline and terminations, discrimination and harassment, independent contractor classification, wage and hour law compliance, disability accommodation, leaves of absence, unfair competition and trade secret theft, and workforce reductions. He is also skilled at drafting employment agreements, independent contractor agreements, and separation agreements, as well as conducting anti-harassment and other workplace trainings.

When litigation is unavoidable, Scott leverages his extensive experience in employment litigation, which includes successfully trying employment cases through jury verdicts. He regularly represents clients before federal and state courts and agencies in non-competition and trade secret litigation, as well as in matters involving claims of employment discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, wage and hour violations, and breach of contract.

As part of his litigation practice, Scott advises corporate clients on matters related to whistleblower compliance. He defends against retaliation claims brought by employees for reporting alleged violations of various workplace safety and health, environmental, financial reform, food and drug safety, and securities laws. Scott has helped clients investigate and successfully defend claims raised by whistleblowers under the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, the Dodd-Frank Act, and the Occupational Safety and Health Act, among other laws.

Scott also works with executives during critical transitions in their employment relationships. He regularly advises and negotiates on behalf of executives concerning the terms of their employment, separation, equity, change of control, and other key business agreements.

Before joining Epstein Becker Green, Scott was an employment and labor partner at a law firm on the East Coast. Earlier in his career, he served as Associate General Counsel at Boston University’s Office of the General Counsel, where he represented the university in employment litigation before state and federal courts and administrative agencies.

Between college and law school, Scott served as an Infantry Officer in the U.S. Marine Corps. He deployed to Mogadishu, Somalia, with the 1st Battalion, 9th Marines, during Operation Restore Hope (1993 to 1994).
