Overview

Attorney Lisa Diehl Vandecaveye* draws on more than 35 years of experience as a Chief Legal Officer and health care executive when advising health care clients on the corporate and regulatory issues affecting their operations.

Lisa delivers business-focused general counsel services, guiding health care clients through strategic growth and development, governance, regulatory compliance, leadership transitions, licensing, insurance, and risk management best practices. She also advises on operational and HIPAA compliance matters, as well as medical staff, credentialing, peer review, and quality improvement issues. Additionally, clients rely on Lisa to help them navigate intricate contractual arrangements, including hospital-physician collaborations, and to advise on acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, and other complex transactions.

Before joining Epstein Becker Green, Lisa served as Executive Vice President, Chief Legal Officer, and Board Secretary of The Joint Commission. In this capacity, she provided strategic leadership on legal, compliance, and governance matters.

Lisa’s real-world legal insights and pragmatic approach to problem-solving also stem from her tenure in senior leadership roles in various Michigan health care organizations. As Senior Vice President and Chief Corporate Responsibility Officer of an eight-hospital system with over 150 ambulatory sites, 5,000 physicians, and 33,000 employees, she oversaw compliance, privacy, security, internal audit, and accreditation efforts. Previously, as Corporate Vice President of Legal Affairs at a 330-bed hospital and long-term care continuum, ambulance services, and verified trauma center, she managed corporate legal affairs, compliance, human resources, and risk management programs. Earlier in her career, she led operations as President of a 70-bed skilled nursing facility and developed a strategic plan for medical staff integration across four hospitals and numerous clinics in the Metro Detroit area.
