Drawing upon her past experience as hospital general counsel, attorney Kim Parks works with hospitals and health systems on their medical staff matters.

Clients seek Kim's advice on medical staff structures, documents, and governance; scope of practice; Medicare conditions of participation; hospital accreditation (e.g., TJC, ACHC, DNV); and clinical / patient care matters.

Kim reviews, revises, and drafts medical staff documents on a daily basis. She also advises clients on medical staff and advanced practice provider peer review / professional practice evaluation matters, credentialing, appointment, and privileging practices and other medical staff operational issues consistent with applicable laws, rules, regulations, accreditation standards, and industry best practices.

  • Counseled on system standardization of medical staff governing documents including, but not limited to, drafting and revising those documents; met/communicated with medical staff committees, medical staff leaders, CVOs, and medical staff services professionals; facilitated the process for approval of medical staff documents; and addressed implementation questions for complex multi-market health systems composed of acute care hospitals, critical access hospitals, and individual, merged, and unified medical staff structures.
  • Provided daily interpretation, review, and/or revision of medical staff bylaws, policies (i.e., credentials, organization, fair hearing, conduct, impairment, peer review, FPPE/OPPE, etc.), and/or rules and regulations for hospitals.
  • Advised as to the process for creation of new medical staffs in conjunction with opening new hospitals, and prepared related work plans, resolutions, and medical staff documents.
  • Provided guidance with respect to the process for establishing a unified medical staff and preparation of related documents.
  • Applied the applicable Medicare conditions of participation and accreditation standards to daily fact patterns posed by medical staff leaders and medical staff services professionals.
  • Prepared numerous sets of medical staff governing documents for ambulatory surgery centers.
  • Assisted hospitals with preparation of plans of correction in response to CMS complaint surveys and accreditation matters.
