Overview

Katherine Heaney* brings a dedicated and results-oriented approach to helping employers find practical and reliable solutions to various legal challenges.

She helps employers navigate the intricate federal, state, and local employment regulations that affect all aspects of the employment relationship, including hiring, promotions, discipline, and terminations. Katherine reviews and updates employee handbooks, policies, and procedures, assisting employers in managing complex issues such as workplace accommodations, leave of absence requests, wage and hour compliance, and internal investigations related to workplace misconduct, including harassment and retaliation claims. In addition, she assists in defending employers against claims of employment discrimination, harassment, and retaliation.

Katherine began working at Epstein Becker Green as a 2023 Summer Associate in the New York office. She earned her J.D. from Fordham University School of Law, where she served as an Associate Editor of the Fordham Urban Law Journal and as the Managing Editor of the Fordham Law Moot Court Board. She also interned at the Entrepreneurial Law Clinic of Fordham Law’s affiliated nonprofit law firm, advising startup founders on employment law, business law, and intellectual property law matters.

During law school, Katherine interned for a major not-for-profit health insurer, identifying best practices for complying with anti-discrimination laws while safeguarding patient data privacy under HIPAA. She also completed a civil litigation externship with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York and was a judicial extern for the Honorable Devin P. Cohen of the Kings County Supreme Court.

Katherine holds a Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University. While she was a student at Cornell, Katherine interned in the HR department at the headquarters of a major sports league, developing talent management and internal communications strategies. After graduating from Cornell, she worked as a Business Analyst at an HR software implementation and solutions services firm, where she customized software platforms to meet clients' people management needs.
