Overview

Jean-Claude Velasquez* helps organizations formulate legal strategies to effectively navigate today’s complex health care and life sciences landscape.

Hospitals, health systems, and other health care providers count on Jean-Claude for assistance with health care fraud and abuse, reimbursement, regulatory compliance, and transactional matters. He brings over a decade of experience in health care and life sciences, having worked with prominent companies in the field.

As a barrister and solicitor in Ontario, Canada, Jean-Claude advised clients on cross-border transactions, commercial litigation, and intellectual property matters, which enriches his American health care practice with a distinct perspective. Prior to becoming a lawyer, he was the director of a risk adjustment program at a leading national academic medical center, where he led efforts to mitigate the risk of an investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Office of the Inspector General or whistleblower complaint—an experience that offers clients an edge in meeting high-stakes regulatory demands.

During law school, Jean-Claude was a part-time consultant at an organization that advises the U.S. government on defense, cybersecurity, and health care policy. He advised several federal agencies on projects regarding the No Surprises Act and the Hospital Price Transparency Rule. Jean-Claude was also a summer associate at Epstein Becker Green, where he focused on emerging issues in telehealth, vaccine policy, reimbursement compliance, and artificial intelligence.

A graduate of the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law, Jean-Claude was a Dean’s Legal Research and Writing Fellow, where he advised a binational organization on Indigenous consultation requirements under American and Canadian law. He is completing an L.L.M. in American Law at George Mason Antonin Scalia Law School.
