Following is an excerpt:

Epstein Becker Green has boosted its labor and employment practice in the nation’s capital with the addition of a veteran litigation partner from Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton LLP.

Garen E. Dodge, who has worked in employment law for more than 30 years, joins Epstein Becker’s employment, labor and workforce management team in Washington, D.C. ...

Dodge told Law360 on Wednesday that the opportunity to work with some of the top wage-and-hour attorneys in the U.S., including fellow Jackson Lewis alumnus Paul DeCamp, was a major factor in his decision to move to Epstein Becker. He also cited the firm’s partnership with Deloitte on workforce management issues.

“I’m just very excited to join EBG. It’s a brand that’s well known. It’s gotten a lot of great recognition,” he said. “I’m excited to be here in Washington, D.C., working with lawyers that I’ve admired over the years, and I look forward to helping build it.” ...

The employment arena, Dodge said, is uniquely interesting for its combination of law and human interest, where attorneys can see “real consequences” in their work.

“The practice of labor and employment law just appealed to me as a dynamic conversion of law and trying to do the right thing,” he said. “I was drawn to the human interest scenarios that would come up in the practice.”

Dodge pointed to a recent jury trial win as an example, in which an employee sued his former company and manager over his firing after he brought an AR-15 rifle to work.

“It’s exciting when you can really help a company or a manager out, and when there’s a real consequence to what you’ve done,” Dodge said.
