Rucker looks like he’s a technical leader in health information technology, Bradley Merrill Thompson, a Washington-based health-care attorney with Epstein Becker & Green PC, told Bloomberg BNA April 3.
Thompson, a Bloomberg BNA advisory board member, said Rucker has good experience in both health care and industry and knowledge of the life sciences business due to both his MBA from Stanford and his tenure at Siemens.
“I think the challenge facing the ONC presently is really a bit more about government and the ONC’s role,” Thompson said. The ONC is in need of leadership that understands what other government agencies are already doing in this space and where there’s a need for the ONC to be a leader, Thompson said.
“There will also be a good bit of just plain old political maneuvering required at this juncture to build a consensus on the part of the government about what the various stakeholders should each do,” Thompson said.
Rucker doesn’t have much government experience, Thompson said, and is likely to face considerable political challenges building a consensus for the ONC.
