Bradley Merrill Thompson Quoted in “IMS Health Launches Mobile Prescribing Platform, Health App Development Tool”Bloomberg BNA's Medical Devices Law & Industry Report December 17, 2013
Bradley Merrill Thompson, a Member of the Firm in the Health Care and Life Sciences practice, in the Washington, DC, office, was quoted in an article titled "IMS Health Launches Mobile Prescribing Platform, Health App Development Tool."
Following is an excerpt:
IMS Health Dec. 10 announced that it has launched AppScript, an application prescribing platform designed to help health-care providers and health plans create proprietary formularies. ?...
Attorney Bradley Merrill Thompson, with Epstein Becker & Green PC, in Washington, told Bloomberg BNA Dec. 17 in an e-mail that "the tidal wave of apps is making it difficult for the high quality ones to shine through, so anything that helps physicians and other users sort the good from the bad will be most welcome."
"The AppScript seems to touch upon several needs that we identified over the summer as part of the federal advisory committee working" under the Food and Drug Administration Safety and Innovation Act (FDASIA), Thompson said. ?...
"The committee felt that private solutions to address the need for certification and user reviews of mobile apps and other health information technology would help lessen the need for governmental oversight," Thompson said.
He said there have been several assessments revealing how widely divergent performance is among applications with similar claims. "This presents a nightmare for payers and providers who want to direct their patients to those apps that can truly make a difference in their health," Thompson said.
