Privacy and data security pro Alaap Shah has rejoined Epstein Becker Green as a member in its health care and life sciences practice in Washington, D.C.
Shah began his career as an associate at the firm before going in-house at the American Society of Clinical Oncology, where he was most recently senior counsel and chief privacy and security officer. His work spans from compliance with HIPAA and other privacy laws to compliance with anti-kickback laws, the False Claims Act and unfair competition laws.
“I began my career at EBG so returning to a firm that provides interesting work and is filled with professionals that I know and admire is an opportunity that I am really looking forward to,” Shah said in a statement. “The firm provides an outstanding platform from which attorneys can learn and grow and I am hopeful that all of my past experiences from inside and outside of the firm will add value to our clients.”
Shah earned his law degree from University of Maryland’s Francis King Carey School of Law, a Master of Public Health in health policy and management from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry from Union College.
The Health Information Trust Alliance has designated Shah as a certified CSF practitioner, meaning he’s been trained to develop effective security programs. Additionally, the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society named him a certified professional in health care information and management systems.
