MICHAEL D. THOMPSON is a Member of the Firm in the Employment, Labor & Workforce Management practice, in the firm's Newark office.

Mr. Thompson's experience includes:

  • Representing employers before state and federal courts in litigation concerning federal and states discrimination laws, retaliation claims, and other employment matters
  • Litigating wage-and-hour collective actions and other class actions
  • Overseeing the development of comprehensive compliance programs and providing advice on the development and implementation of business policies and practices that foster compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Defending whistleblower and False Claims Act cases, particularly in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Counseling clients regarding all aspects of employee relations (including termination, discipline, leaves of absence, reductions in force, wage/hour issues, HIPAA and other privacy requirements, background checks, and drug testing)
  • Providing guidance with respect to union/management relations
  • Developing and delivering management and employee training
  • Advising employers regarding anti-kickback issues and the avoidance of whistleblower claims
  • Representing clients in litigation concerning restrictive covenants, including non-compete agreements
  • Mediating disputes to successful and cost-effective resolutions

Mr. Thompson has written a variety of articles on whistleblower issues and unlawful kickbacks in the pharmaceutical industry. Mr. Thompson was named in Chambers USA (2014 and 2017) among the “Leaders in Their Field” in New Jersey for Labor & Employment. Chambers quotes clients as saying that Mr. Thompson is "an extremely creative and intelligent attorney."
