Washington, DC (May 16, 2008) — ILSI Biomed Israel 2008 (Tel Aviv, May 27-29) wraps up with an exciting and rare panel of top U.S. health officials and attorneys from co-sponsors Epstein Becker & Green (EBG) on "The U.S. Market: Challenges and Opportunities Ahead - Perspectives from DHHS, FDA and CMS."

Representatives from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Leslie Norwalk, former U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) acting administrator and now EBG strategic counsel, will be moderated by Lynn Shapiro Snyder, senior EBG member and one of the leading U.S. lawyers helping biomedical, health care and life sciences companies commercialize their new products in the U.S.

Dr. Tevi Troy, DHHS deputy secretary and Dr. Daniel Schultz, FDA's Center for Devices and Radiological Health director, will join the panel.

Norwalk is also a member of EBG Advisors, Inc., a Washington, D.C. consultancy affiliated with the law firm Epstein Becker & Green.

Epstein Becker & Green has more than 125 attorneys dedicated to representing companies in the health care and life sciences industry, making this practice group one of the largest in health care and life sciences in the United States.

"I have heard much about the exciting innovation of Israeli biomedical, health care and life sciences companies," Norwalk said. "I also am looking forward to my first trip to Israel."

Ruti Alon, ILSI Biomed Israel 2008 co-chair, ILSI chairperson, and Pitango Venture Capital life sciences activities head, said: "I want Israeli companies to hear first-hand from senior U.S. health care policymakers about the challenges facing the U.S. health care market, such as quality and cost-containment, so that they can provide the solutions both for the U.S. and globally."

"It is very rare to get all three of these U.S. governmental perspectives on health care and life sciences issues on the same panel, let alone in Israel — a hot bed for innovation," Snyder noted. "The high caliber of participants on this panel and in all the other sessions is a testament to Israel's growing biomedical, health care and life sciences industries. EBG is excited to be a sponsor."

Snyder also will speak at a session on U.S. drug and device commercialization issues related to coding, coverage and payment, along with Robert Wanerman, EBG senior counsel, EBG Advisors member, and former DHHS attorney. According to Wanerman, "We have been helping Israeli and other foreign-based firms bring their new drugs, devices and biologics into the U.S. market, and I am looking forward to hearing about breakthroughs from the various companies showcasing at ILSI-Biomed 2008."
