Susan Gross Sholinsky, Member of the Firm in the Employment, Labor & Workforce Management practice, in the firm’s New York office, was quoted in Law360, in “What Mid-Law Firms Are Doing to Support Female Attorneys,” by Emma Cueto. (Read the full version – subscription required.)

Following is an excerpt:

While the legal industry remains a long way off from gender parity, some firms are making visible strides in that direction. Law360 Pulse spoke to the Mid-Law firms that stand at the top of this year's Glass Ceiling ranking about how they support women at the firm and what has been effective in attracting and retaining female talent. …

Several of the firms that ranked in the top 10 of the two midsize categories told Law360 Pulse that they attribute much of their success in attracting and retaining female attorneys to policies such as parental leave or flexible schedules, which can be a huge help to women, who are statistically more likely to be responsible for the majority [of] parenting duties. …

Susan Gross Sholinsky at Epstein Becker Green echoed this idea. "I do think making parental leave available and encouraged for not only women but men as well will be one of the great equalizers," she said. …

A firm's existing gender breakdown is also a tangible sign for young female attorneys and female laterals of what they can expect. "When people see women rising to leadership roles within the firm … seeing that speaks louder than any policy a firm could put into place," said Gross Sholinsky.
