Dean Silverberg, a Member of the Firm in the Labor and Employment practice in the New York office, was quoted in an article about the DOL's new public outreach program for low-wage workers.
The article discussed how the DOL's new program for low-wage workers is reminiscent of a program that the U.S. Solicitor of Labor Patricia Smith launched during her time in New York, and offers insight into the enforcement approach the agency may be taking under its new leadership.
The DOL's Wage and Hour Division's "We Can Help" program launched in April encourages employees and community groups to report possible wage violations without fear of retaliation. The article questioned how much influence Smith could have on the program given the current lack of an administrator for the division.
The article also stated that Smith may pool resources with other federal agencies to pursue the DOL's enforcement priorities. "If that carries over, we could see joint efforts and joint task forces on the federal level between the Departments of Labor and other federal agencies," said Silverberg.
