In the 2024 general election, 10 states voted on ballot initiatives to either protect access to abortion or restrict access to abortion in the state, with seven states voting to expand or protect access to abortion.
Of these, two states may now switch from states restricting access to states protecting access to abortion and reproductive health — Arizona and Missouri.
Initiatives in Florida, Nebraska and South Dakota would have also changed the status quo if passed, but each of these measures failed to garner the necessary votes.
Four other states voted to affirm existing access to abortion in each state's constitution — Colorado, Maryland, Montana and New York. Finally, one state — Nevada — has passed its first hurdle in the 2024 election and will need to achieve the same result in 2026 for the measure to ultimately succeed in protecting abortion access. …
