Peter L. Altieri, the Managing Shareholder of the firm’s New York office, was quoted in Law360, in “What New Associates Need to Do to Launch a Great Career.” (Read the full version — subscription required.)Following is an excerpt:Associates should avoid, what I call, the ‘piece work’ syndrome. You don’t want to be given a piece of work, do just that assignment and then just hand it in. Interact throughout the process with the assigning attorney. To effectively do the assignment, you need to understand the context. Seek to do more than you are asked by participating in the strategy and offering other points of view and solutions as you go through the assignment. Being more than a worker, and earning a role on the team by contributing thought leadership, is critical to becoming an invaluable member of any firm.
