In 2006, the Office of Inspector General (OIG) marked its 30th anniversary by publishing a retrospective look at the agency entitled "Protecting Public Health and Human Services Programs: A 30-Year Retrospective." The Retrospective highlights the impact of OIG activities between 1976 and 2006 and identifies the roles that the False Claims Amendments Act of 1986 and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 have played in providing OIG with statutory foundations and financial support upon which much of this work is based.
