William Walters, Associate in the Health Care & Life Sciences practice, in the firm’s Washington, DC, office, was quoted in Citeline Pink Sheet, in “Changes in Pediatric COVID-19 Vaccine Recommendations Causing Coverage Confusion,” by Sue Strutter.
Following is an excerpt:
The change in the US government’s COVID-19 vaccination recommendations for children and adolescents is causing reimbursement confusion.
Shared clinical decision-making for COVID-19 vaccination of healthy children ages six months and older should trigger full coverage under the Affordable Care Act, but that is not always happening in doctors’ offices and pharmacies.
“Confusion plays a big role in vaccine coverage rates, even when vaccines are entirely covered,” William Walters, an associate at Epstein Becker Green in Washington, DC, told a recent Food and Drug Law Institute webinar.
“Clear communication in any year is really important in getting maximum coverage rates for flu, COVID-19, any of the seasonal respiratory diseases that we vaccinate against, and this year is one of the most confusing years there may have ever been for vaccine recommendations,” he said.
