If a company offers a paid time off bank instead of various classifications of time such as vacation, sick and other types of leave, that can cause problems for employers trying to keep compliant, too.
Susan Gross Sholinsky of Epstein Becker & Green PC says she has some clients who have second-guessed their PTO policy after seeing the sea change afoot.
“Some clients who have switched over to PTO have gone back,” she said. …
Peter Stein of Epstein Becker & Green said that although he doesn’t think there were any paid sick leave laws 10 years ago, there have been several in the past half-decade and there is “evidence of a continuing trend along that spectrum.”
Although Stein said he doesn’t see employers outside of the government-contracting sphere preemptively crafting their policies in preparation for national legislation, Gross Sholinsky has seen national employers employ baseline benefits across the board that are tied to the more liberal ordinances so they don’t have to change with the whims of public policy.
