Following is an excerpt (see below to download the full version in PDF format):
Epstein Becker & Green (EBG) has been an invaluable Pro Bono Partnership partner for over a decade. EBG attorneys have assisted our nonprofit clients in all of our geographic service areas (New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut). EBG’s counsel on a diverse range of issues from employee classification to 501(c)(3) tax-exemption has been vital to the success and sustainability of many of our nonprofit clients.
In late 2017, a team from EBG volunteered to review the bylaws for The Connecticut League for Nursing, Inc. (“CLN”), a Connecticut-based nonprofit dedicated to promoting excellence in nursing education and building a strong and diverse nursing workforce to advance the nation's health. The following year, when the CLN executive team decided to create a spinoff nonprofit, the Connecticut Center for Nursing Workforce, Inc. (“CCNW”), EBG once again stepped up to the plate. The team from EBG worked closely with CCNW leadership to incorporate the new entity, handle state-specific filings, and complete the application to the IRS. At the same time, the EBG teams counseled the CCNW group on important corporate governance practices, advised regarding the relationship between CCNW and CLN, and continued to work with CLN on corporate structure issues. Marcia Proto, Executive Director at CCNW, in a thank you note to the EBG attorneys, wrote “the entire experience was very collaborative as well as educational for me, and I so appreciate the guidance from your team throughout the process. … Again thank you for your active engagement and time that you committed to this project.”
The Partnership and our clients are very grateful for the hard work and dedication of all of the volunteers from EBG and everyone at the firm who supports their efforts. We would like to give a special thanks to the team that supported CLN and CCNW: Paulina Grabczak, Gregory Mitchell, Anjana Patel, Jackie Selby, and David Weiss.
