New-York based lawyer John Pope, who's worked Zeigler's case since 1991, welcomed the Medill Justice Project's involvement.
"It's always very helpful to have more eyes, especially such discerning eyes, look at the facts and the evidence and to dig deeper," he said. "Because every time we've dug deeper in the case, we've turned up exculpatory evidence."
The article discusses the addition of the Medill Justice Project, a national investigative journalism center that examines potentially wrongful convictions, to the team working on behalf of a pro bono client that Mr. Pope has represented for more than twenty years. Mr. Pope represents his client along with co-counsel from another law firm.
