New York, NY (January 11, 2012) — The national law firm of Epstein Becker Green (EBG) today announced it has launched a new blog focused on labor and employment issues that affect health care and life sciences companies.
The Health Employment and Labor blog is an initiative that stems from the Firm's Health Employment and Labor (HEAL®) Group, which combines the strengths of the Firm's two founding national practices — Health Care and Life Sciences and Labor and Employment. EBG attorneys have a deep knowledge of both the labor and employment field and wanted to create a blog that would help to inform and educate employers about the challenges and opportunities facing the U.S. health care and life sciences industry. The blog will provide human resources professionals, managers, and business owners in the health care and life sciences space with information they need to understand, interpret, comply, and implement the laws and regulations that affect them.
The Firm has provided health care and labor and employment support to companies across the full spectrum of health care organizations — hospitals and health systems, biotechnology and life sciences companies, health plans and health care insurers, pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers, academic medical centers, private equity funds that invest in health care assets, and others.
"Our cross-disciplinary legal and regulatory experience enables us to provide employers with comprehensive solutions to complex employment problems. We are able to use our deep understanding of the health care and life sciences industry to advise those clients in the labor and employment areas," said Jay P. Krupin, Chair of the Firm's National Labor & Employment Steering Committee and Co-Chair of HEAL. "We hope that health industry employers will read our blog to stay abreast of issues specific to them in order to make timely and well informed decisions that will keep them out of trouble."
"Right now 'change' is the norm for the health care and life sciences industry. Whether the catalyst is health reform, innovation, domestic or global challenges, change in a company can trigger labor and employment issues. It is more effective for the labor and employment advice to be provided taking into account the broader context of what the client is facing in the health care and life sciences marketplace. And a blog gets that information out to the public quickly," said Lynn Shapiro Snyder, a Senior Member of the Firm in the Health Care and Life Sciences practice, and Co-Chair of HEAL, in the Washington, D.C., office.
The authors of the blog are attorneys in Epstein Becker Green's Labor and Employment and Health Care and Life Sciences practices. Visit the Health Employment and Labor blog at www.healthemploymentandlabor.com.
The HEAL Group has considerable knowledge in advising health care clients in all forms of labor and employment issues, including dealing with labor-management relations, wage hour compliance, discrimination matters, non-competition agreements, and whistle-blower actions. With the passage of health care reform, some of the new requirements that health care and life sciences companies need to comply with include expanded wage and hour issues, new whistleblower liabilities under the Elder Justice Act, and extended health plan/Employee Retirement Income Security Act obligations. Both the Health Care and Life Sciences and Labor and Employment practices have more than 100 attorneys in each practice.
