Washington, DC (October 4, 2017) — Two Epstein Becker Green (EBG) attorneys have been appointed to leadership roles in the Network for Excellence in Health Innovation’s (NEHI) Health Care Without Walls initiative, which is focused on advancing development of a more distributed and accessible health care system, drawing on current and future technologies. Mark Lutes, Member of the Firm and Chair of the firm’s Board of Directors, will co-lead the Payment work stream of the initiative. James Boiani, Member of the Firm, will co-lead the Regulatory Issues work stream.
“New technologies have the opportunity to positively impact the U.S. health care system, and we feel fortunate to be involved in considering payment and regulatory forces shaping that impact,” said Mr. Lutes. “As a firm focused on health care law for more than four decades, EBG welcomes the opportunity to add its insights in these areas, and we look forward to collaborating with a great group of industry leaders to identify opportunities for policy and industry advancement.”
NEHI’s Health Care Without Walls Initiative is premised on the notion that advances in technology, such as telehealth and remote sensors, are already shifting some health care outside of conventional institutional settings, including hospitals and physicians’ offices. NEHI’s project work streams will examine the opportunities for creating such a system and tackling the barriers that may stand in the way of it. The separate work streams will examine technological developments; payment, reimbursement, and financing issues; regulatory concerns; the health care work force, and human factors bearing on use of technology. The work streams will develop policy recommendations and action plans for policy makers, health care organizations, and others, to help pave the way for a new health care delivery ecosystem.
“NEHI is delighted to collaborate with Epstein Becker Green on this initiative, which is designed to build on innovative technologies to stimulate beneficial transformation within health care,” said Susan Dentzer, President and CEO of NEHI. “Mark Lutes’ and James Boiani’s experience and thought leadership in health care payment reform and regulatory issues will bring enormous value to our work streams and help us produce truly thought-provoking recipes for public policy and organizational change.”
