New York, NY (November 18, 2024)Epstein Becker Green (EBG) is pleased to announce that eight attorneys have been promoted to Members of the Firm, effective January 1, 2025. Earning a place in this year’s class are Lauren Brophy Cooper (Litigation and Business Disputes; Princeton), Daniella R. Lee (Health Care and Life Sciences; Tampa), Megan Robertson (Health Care and Life Sciences; Washington, DC), Benjamin T. Runge (Employment, Labor and Workforce Management; Los Angeles), Erin E. Schaefer (Employment, Labor and Workforce Management; New York), Avery Schumacher (Health Care and Life Sciences; Columbus), Christopher R. Smith (Health Care and Life Sciences; Washington, DC), and A. Millie Warner (Employment, Labor and Workforce Management; New York).

“Lauren, Daniella, Megan, Ben, Erin, Avery, Chris, and Millie have consistently demonstrated exceptional lawyering and dedication to client service, and our firm and its clients are markedly better for it,” said Mark Lutes, Chair of EBG’s Board of Directors. “We are delighted to welcome this skilled group into our partnership and anticipate their significant contributions will continue to strengthen our core practices in health care, life sciences, workforce management, and litigation.”

Attorney Lauren Cooper’s practice focuses on commercial litigation and the representation of health care providers and health-related entities in complex litigation matters, before federal and state courts, at trial and on appeal. She represents clients in cases involving business torts (including unfair competition, disclosure of confidential information, theft of trade secrets, breach of fiduciary duty, fraud and deceptive business practices, and tortious interference with prospective economic advantage) and contract disputes.

Health care organizations and individuals look to attorney Daniella Lee to protect and defend them in litigation and government enforcement proceedings that are controlled by complex regulatory regimes. Whether regarding alleged fraud or violations of the False Claims Act, anti-kickback statutes, or civil monetary penalty laws, Daniella’s clients rely on her guidance from the first sign of an investigation, legal action, or agency enforcement.

Attorney Megan Robertson approaches her practice with enthusiasm that stems both from her personal experiences and her overall passion for the intersection of science, medicine, and the law. Her background, including an undergraduate degree in genetics, allows her to understand the unique compliance challenges faced by, and the development opportunities available to, drug and device manufacturers, clinical laboratories, research sponsors, clinical research sites, and contract research organizations in the life sciences industry.

Attorney Ben Runge successfully advocates for clients in complex employment and commercial disputes. He defends employers against wage and hour, wrongful termination, discrimination, and retaliation claims, and those arising under the California Private Attorneys General Act.

A skilled advisor, negotiator, and advocate, attorney Erin Schaefer helps employers solve their labor-management relations workforce problems. Drawing on nearly a decade of experience as a Field Attorney for the National Labor Relations Board, she assists clients in negotiating collective bargaining agreements, managing union organizing and other labor relations issues, and resolving labor disputes.

Health care clients value Avery Schumacher for her broad knowledge of the health care industry, public health, and health administration. Her practice regularly focuses on medical staff, credentialing, peer review, and quality improvement issues. Avery also represents hospitals and other health care organizations in contractual arrangements, including a variety of hospital-physician relationships, and counsels clients on operational and fraud and abuse compliance matters.

Pharmaceutical companies, drug distributors, and payors turn to attorney Chris Smith for strategic, transactional, and regulatory guidance. He also provides litigation services to employers in discrimination, trade secret, and other matters. Christopher’s practice focuses on pharmacy law, drug distribution, drug life cycle, and supply chain issues, as well as dispensing and reimbursement issues.

Clients look to attorney Millie Warner to guide them through a wide range of employment law and human resources issues they face as part of doing business. Millie helps her clients avoid liability by consulting on disciplinary processes, termination of employees, and day-to-day human resources matters, and by drafting employment agreements, separation agreements, confidentiality and restrictive covenant agreements, and employment policies.
