Following is an excerpt:

Christine Burke Worthen is joining Epstein Becker in Washington, D.C., as a member of the firm to continue consulting healthcare clients on industry-specific issues, fielding clients' questions on Medicare reimbursement particulars, managed Medicaid issues and with healthcare contract negotiations, the firm said in a statement on Tuesday. …

Worthen told Law360 Pulse on Wednesday that she wanted to move her practice to the firm because of Epstein Becker's focus on healthcare and life sciences issues and its broader, national platform. Those were all reasons that drew her to the firm as she sought to meet clients' needs. …

Worthen told Law360 Pulse that she was introduced to healthcare law issues while working with healthcare systems as part of her ERISA work. She saw those issues as a natural evolution to her practice, she said, which later translated into a hybrid practice focused on the gamut of industry issues.

"I think with the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, there was a lot more opportunity to do more creative things, … for ERISA plans with the advent of [Accountable Care Organizations] and value-based payment and the like," Worthen said. "And so it just happened to be a natural progression, but that was the catalyst."
