New York, NY (October 1, 2013) — The national law firm of Epstein Becker Green (EBG) is pleased to announce that Mollie O'Brien, former in-house counsel with two decades of experience serving clients in the health care industry, has joined as a Member of the Firm in the Health Care and Life Sciences practice, in the Newark office.

O'Brien previously served as a Senior Vice President, Legal Affairs & General Counsel at Emergency Medical Associates in Parsippany, N.J., which is a group of 400 emergency medicine providers servicing more than 25 hospitals on the East Coast of the United States. She was also General Counsel and Chief Operating Officer of Superior Insurance Company, which is also in Parsippany, N.J. O'Brien's experience includes advising health care and insurance companies on issues related to HIPAA, fraud and abuse, Medicare/Medicaid, health care technology, medical liability risk management, regulatory requirements, and contract negotiations as well as representing clients in litigation matters in federal and state courts.

"An attorney such as Mollie, who has served in senior leadership positions in the health care industry, gives us a real advantage. Having spent many years as both a business executive and general counsel, she understands the types of issues and challenges our clients face, especially during a time, like now, of unprecedented change in the industry," said George Breen, Chair of the firm's National Health Care and Life Sciences Practice Steering Committee. "Her experience with hospital systems, physician groups, and insurance providers will further strengthen our existing capabilities in these areas."

"I was interested in joining a law firm, like Epstein Becker Green, that has a strong and solid concentration on health care law and that cultivates thought leaders who are committed to shaping and influencing the issues and regulations that affect health care institutions," said O'Brien.

O'Brien was appointed to the New Jersey Supreme Court Advisory Committee on Expedited Civil Actions in 2013. She was chosen as one of New Jersey's "Top Fifty Women in Business" by NJBIZ in 2012.

O'Brien joins other recent additions who bring real world experience to the firm's Health Care and Life Sciences practice including: John Eriksen, who served as the Office of General Counsel with Sutter Health Support Services, and Linda Tiano, who served as a Senior Vice President and General Counsel with Health Net.
