Following is an excerpt:

The New Jersey Supreme Court on Wednesday said it won't review a settlement that insurer Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey inked in a class action claiming it defrauded physicians in the state, despite some doctors' objections that the deal wasn't reasonable.

The state's high court issued a one-page order denying a petition for certification filed by a group of doctors who said Horizon's noncash settlement provides nothing of value to the class members and also attacked the calculations used to award $4.6 million in fees to the suit's class counsel. Last July, the state appellate division rebuffed the group's objections to the settlement and counsel fees.

Horizon Blue Cross is represented by John M. Murdock of Benton Potter & Murdock PC and by Maxine Neuhauser and Michael J. Slocum of Epstein Becker & Green PC.
