Following is an excerpt:
John C. Tishler joined Epstein Becker last month after spending the last 22 years with Waller Lansden Dortch & Davis LLP, which included a six-year stint as that firm’s chairman. Tishler told Law360 Pulse on Tuesday that his main reasons for joining Epstein Becker were the firm’s large national footprint and its expertise in the health care industry.
“I’ve admired Epstein Becker for years, having interacted with them in many different contexts throughout that time,” Tishler said. “Among many things, Epstein Becker has a unique market position because it is one of few firms that has a substantial health care practice with deep roots in D.C. and New York, which allows them to accurately gauge the temperature of regulatory policymakers at any point in time.” …
At Epstein Becker, Tishler said that along with his legal practice, one of his main responsibilities will be to advise in areas such as business development and recruiting to help increase the firm’s presence in Nashville, where he has spent his entire career practicing law.
“As Nashville is the de facto health care services center of the nation, many larger ‘behemoth’ firms with 1,000-plus attorneys are seeking to make their mark in our city because they see growth not only in health care, but employment in general,” he said. “Epstein Becker Green is unique in that they are boutique, which is highly attractive to someone who doesn’t want to join a larger firm and all that entails.”
During his stint as Waller Lansden’s chairman, Tishler helped the firm and its clients navigate the challenges posed by the Great Recession, while at the same time leading its growth to more than 250 attorneys, mainly from individual hires and small group additions.
“As chair, I was able to build critical relationships that honed my understanding of the broader health care industry and legal markets in Nashville and nationwide,” he said. “At Epstein Becker, I will be taking on a similar focus on growing and elevating the firm not only in Nashville, but throughout the Southeast.”
