When is the last time you used your medical staff governing documents? Are they gathering dust on a shelf, or do you refer to them for guidance regarding day-to-day medical staff situations? Medical staff are required to have medical staff governing documents that satisfy the applicable Medicare conditions of participation (COPs) and comply with corresponding applicable accreditation standards. However, medical staff documents are intended to be used, not pulled out of a drawer every few years to satisfy an accreditation surveyor.
