Susan Gross Sholinsky, Cassandra Labbees, and Delia Deschaine, Members of the Firm, present “From Roe to Dobbs: The Impact of State Abortion Laws on Employers,” an on-demand webinar hosted by Lawline.

This program discusses the Supreme Court's groundbreaking decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, and the fall-out of that decision, including the myriad state laws that criminalize the provision of abortion care, give a private right of action to individuals against persons who aid and abet that care, as well as opposing state "safe-haven" laws.  The presenters discuss the impact that these laws have on employee benefit programs and employer policies and procedures, as well as some of the related legal and constitutional issues, including ERISA preemption, jurisdiction, and general principles of criminal accessory liability.

Learning objectives:

  • Understand the Supreme Court's decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health and how that decision may impact employee-benefit programs
  • Assess the legal risks associated with providing travel, or other benefits to patients in states with restrictive abortion laws
  • Discuss how the Dobbs decision might impact other employer policies and procedures
  • Understand the unresolved issues and cases to watch as this landscape evolves
