New York, NY (October 17, 2016)Epstein Becker Green (EBG) is pleased to announce that former Assistant U.S. Attorney Melissa L. Jampol has joined as a Member of the Firm in the New York office. Ms. Jampol, who represents health care organizations, and their officers and directors, in a variety of enforcement matters at both the state and federal levels, will join the firm’s Health Care and Life Sciences and Litigation practices.

Ms. Jampol joined the U.S. Attorney’s office for the District of New Jersey in 2005 and was most recently assigned to the Health Care and Government Fraud Unit. Previously, she served in the office’s Violent Crime Unit and Organized Crime & Gang Unit. While at the U.S. Attorney's Office, Ms. Jampol led significant, complex investigations and prosecuted a wide range of high-profile cases, including those involving health care fraud, money laundering, mail and wire fraud, tax fraud, Anti-Kickback Statute violations, child abuse, violations of racketeering (RICO) statutes, and securities fraud. She has tried over two dozen cases, in state and federal courts, and conducted numerous pretrial and post-trial hearings, including lengthy evidentiary and sentencing hearings.

Before joining the U.S. Attorney’s office, Ms. Jampol was an Assistant District Attorney at the New York County (Manhattan) District Attorney’s office for six and half years, where she was assigned to the trial and investigation divisions.

At EBG, Ms. Jampol will defend clients undergoing investigation for health care fraud, defend clients involved in white-collar criminal matters, and perform internal investigations for entities facing potential action by state and federal governments.  She will also serve as defense counsel in connection with False Claims Act cases (including qui tam litigation) and counsel clients on federal and state health care fraud and abuse laws, including the Stark Law and the Anti-Kickback Statute, state corporate practice of medicine requirements, nonprofit and tax-exemption laws and regulations, and state licensure requirements.

“Melissa’s extensive government experience and skill set enhances our government investigations and litigation capabilities,” said George B. Breen, Chair of the firm’s Health Care and Life Sciences Steering Committee. “She also joins a government investigations and litigation team that includes former high-level Department of Justice and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services officials and prosecutors, in addition to defense counsel with decades of experience. Her reputation and track record of success will be tremendous assets to our clients.”

“I look forward to beginning my private practice at a law firm so well known for its decades-long industry leadership in health care,” said Ms. Jampol. “I hope to bring insight and provide solutions to the firm’s clients who may be dealing with complex white-collar criminal, regulatory defense, and internal investigation issues.”

Ms. Jampol received the 2015 U.S. Department of Justice Criminal Division Assistant Attorney General’s Distinguished Service Award (one of only six trial teams nationwide to receive this honor) and the 2016 New Jersey Women in Law Enforcement Meritorious Achievement Award, in which she was recognized for her excellent advocacy and litigation skills and her unwavering dedication to justice. Additionally, Ms. Jampol was nominated for the Executive Office of the U.S. Attorneys Director’s Award for Superior Performance as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, in 2006, 2012, and 2016.  She received a B.A. from Yale University and a J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law.
