Los Angeles, CA (January 9, 2018) – Epstein Becker Green (EBG) is pleased to announce that Richard J. Frey, the former head of Venable’s West Coast labor and employment and litigation practices, has joined the firm in Los Angeles. Also joining from Venable’s Los Angeles office are Senior Attorney Carlos A. Becerra and Associate Robert H. Pepple, adding further depth to EBG’s West Coast team.
Mr. Frey is a sought-after counselor for employers dealing with an array of labor and employment challenges and is equipped to handle both general and complex commercial litigation and business matters. He has achieved successes for his clients that range from important class action dismissals to significant litigation outcomes. His clients include prominent hospitals and health care groups, Fortune 500 companies, sports and entertainment agents, movie studios and independent film producers, communications companies, government contractors, and nonprofit organizations, among others.
In addition to Mr. Frey, EBG has recently attracted other notable attorneys who led employment-related practices at their former firms. These include Jonathan Brenner in Los Angeles, the former head of Sidley Austin’s West Coast labor and employment practice, and Paul DeCamp, the former chair of Jackson Lewis’s national wage and hour practice (and a former Administrator of the U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division), in Washington, DC.
“We continue to add attorneys of the highest quality to our stellar team, creating one of the most respected labor and employment practices in the country,” said David W. Garland, Chair of EBG’s Employment, Labor & Workforce Management Steering Committee. “More than ever before, boards of directors and the C-suite are focused on the HR challenges arising in the workplace and what those challenges mean to a company’s brand and for shareholders. EBG’s focus on workforce management offers attorneys the opportunity to join a firm that embraces what they do and supplies a platform to provide solutions to today’s challenges in the workplace. Our clients know that if there’s an issue affecting their workforce, the EBG team will provide practical and creative solutions, exceptional results, and value.”
“Issues such as pay equity and workplace conduct are in the spotlight right now, and clients need counsel with deep knowledge and experience advising on, and litigating, these types of matters,” said Mr. Frey. “Providing top-tier legal and business advice to employers has been EBG’s strategy for decades, and I look forward to being a part of the firm’s collegial and entrepreneurial team and to helping grow its presence in Los Angeles and beyond.”
Mr. Frey graduated cum laude from both the Pepperdine University Law School and the University of California in Santa Barbara. He serves on the Board of the Children’s Burn Foundation.
