Kevin Malone, Member of the Firm, co-presents "Parity New Rules: An Overview and Discussion" at NatCon 2025, which runs from May 5 to 7.
In 2024, the federal government released new final rules implementing MHPAEA. The final rules amend certain provisions of the existing MHPAEA regulations and add new regulations to set forth content requirements and timeframes for responding to requests for nonquantitative treatment limitation (NQTL) comparative analyses required under MHPAEA. Learn how the final rules address barriers to access to mental health and substance use treatment benefits.
Learning objectives include:
- Identify the core components of the new rules including requirements of plans and issuers.
- Examine how these new rules can impact access to benefits.
- Explore restrictions added under the new rules.
- Understand the consequences for patients and providers if the current parity rules are undone.
- Understand health plan practices that limit access to MH/SUD care that the rules are meant to address
