Epstein Becker Green (EBG) hosts “Leveraging Big Data in Health Care,” a private meeting led by EBG attorneys Elizabeth Scarola and Alaap B. Shah. The meeting will be broken into three sessions.
The first session will provide an overview of the state of today’s “health data ecosystem” in the United States, considering the unique perspective of each of the key industry players (data creators, data aggregators, data brokers, and data consumers) and their approaches to leveraging data for health care innovation, clinical care, and financial benefit.
The second session will address the regulatory, legal, ethical, and technological factors that drive and hinder collaboration. It will provide an overview of today’s changing privacy landscape considering international, federal, and state laws and regulations, as well as address fraud and abuse considerations associated with data exchanges, elaborate on cybersecurity risk mitigation, and touch upon the ethical implications of data use and monetization.
Following an interactive forum format, the third session will allow attendees to explore and reflect upon the application of legal professionalism when advising clients who leverage big data in health care. Within a hypothetical scenario, each attendee will be given the role of data creator, aggregator, broker, or consumer, and will have the opportunity to explore options and develop strategic plans for when they might confront such scenarios.
